Coinbase crypto exchange is launching stock trading and is introducing prediction markets in its most significant expansion beyond cryptocurrency to date.

During its System Update stream on Wednesday, the U.S.-based exchange said it aims to become a multi-asset platform bridging crypto and traditional finance.

The move aligns with Coinbase’s stated ambition to become an “Everything Exchange,” offering retail investors access to a wider range of financial instruments.

Coinbase said it plans a significant expansion of tradable assets on its platform, adding new cryptocurrencies, perpetual futures, equities, and prediction markets, followed by additional partnerships over time.

Steps into Stock Trading

Coinbase hasn’t finalized which stocks will be available at launch, but the initial offering will include hundreds of top U.S. equities, with thousands more stocks and ETFs coming in the months ahead.

The move lets users trade and manage stocks, ETFs, and crypto in one account using USD or USDC, with zero commissions and around-the-clock access during the week.

Early next year, Coinbase plans to expand stock perpetual products, giving international traders 24/7 exposure to U.S. equities through the app.

Prediction Market and Wider Product Expansion

Alongside stocks, Coinbase is broadening its platform with prediction markets, derivatives, and Solana DEX trading. Through a partnership with prediction market platform Kalshi, users can trade contracts on real-world events, including elections, sports, and economic indicators.

The exchange is also making derivatives trading easier and more capital-efficient, offering over 30 U.S. futures and perpetual contracts, including 15 crypto perps for BTC, ETH, SOL, and XRP, with plans to expand further.

Coinbase will also add Solana token trading through the DEX aggregator Jupiter in the near future.

Coinbase also launched Coinbase Advisor, an AI-driven tool for personalized portfolio guidance, and expanded business services with Coinbase Business, now available in the U.S. and Singapore.

Why It Matters

Coinbase’s expansion highlights the growing blend of crypto and traditional finance, reshaping investor access and market dynamics while introducing new regulatory and competitive challenges.
