The DP World Tour and digital asset platform Nexo have launched a new performance-based prize fund, marking the first use of cryptocurrency incentives in professional golf.

The DP World Tour, formerly the European Tour, is a top men’s golf circuit with events across Europe and globally. Together, they introduced the rolling Course Record Presented by Nexo prize, debuting August 7–10 at the newly opened Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland.

How the Rolling Prize Works

The new initiative introduces a $10,000 prize for the first player at any given eligible tournament who sets a new course record. If no player achieves the feat during a tournament week, the prize rolls over, increasing by an additional $10,000 at the next eligible event. Once a course record is set and stands through the end of the tournament, the pot resets.

To mark the launch, Nexo is offering an additional one-time $50,000 bonus in the form of NEXO Tokens at this week’s Nexo Championship, held at the newly opened Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen. The one-time crypto award applies only to the Nexo Championship and will not carry over to future events.

According to the DP World Tour, only events played on a single course will qualify for the prize, and rounds must meet certain competitive conditions, including completion of at least 36 holes and absence of preferred lies due to weather.

Nexo co-founder Antoni Trenchev called the prize a “milestone” that links digital asset innovation with elite sports performance.

The prize follows a broader commercial partnership between the Tour and Nexo. In July, Nexo became the Official Digital Wealth Platform of the DP World Tour under a multi-year agreement through 2027.

Crypto’s Growing Role in Golf and Regional Impact

Beyond the sporting aspect, the Nexo Championship is expected to provide a boost to the local economy. Golf tourism generates over $400 million annually for Scotland, and events like this help extend the season and draw international attention.

With ten course records set in 2024 and six already in 2025, the initiative helps extend the season and draw international attention to the Race to Dubai calendar. The rolling prize fund will conclude at the DP World Tour Championship and restart with the 2026 season.

The Course Record prize will conclude at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and restart in 2026.

Why This Matters

This  DP World Tour and Nexo initiative signals a growing intersection between digital assets and elite sports, introducing new incentive models for athletes.
