Pi Network (PI) just launched a prize pool in celebration of the hackathon, but the Pioneers are torching it hard. Pi’s Hackathon 2025, the multi-month event that’s set to spray 160,000 Pi coins to the winners, begins today.

Pi’s Hackathon Focus Sparks Pioneer Angst

Despite Pi’s Hackathon festivities, some Pi Coin (PI) holders expressed anger over undelivered promises. For instance, Pioneer Luking asked when are the unverified Pi coins going to be transmitted to the mainnet, as some members still have their mined coins stuck on the testnet.

Additionally, the question of 100 decentralized applications (dApps) has been raised. “Keep building, but where are the 100 dapps that were mainnet ready?”, – inquired Crypto Warrior. Others identified Pi Network’s Know Your Customer (KYC) verification procedure as arduous, deeming the Pi Core team’s behavior as careless.

The 160K Pi Network Challenge Deciphered..

Developers on Pi’s Network are bracing themselves to get creative for the Hackathon starting with Pi App Studio & the Brainstorm app. All participants can build on open-source projects using the Pi Open Source (PiOS) & are provided an artificial intelligence (AI) based toolkit.

As today represents the formal kick-off of Pi’s Hackathon, the next check-in will be September 19, 2025. Pioneer builder teams complying with the midpoint check form are more likely to receive free promotion, extra mentorship & feedback before key decisions are made.

Then, October 15, 2025 will stand for the last submission deadline, including app listing on the dev portal, demonstration video & a filled submission form. Later on, Pi’s Core team will unleash the inaugural Pi Hackathon prizes in this order: the winning team gets 75K Pi Coins, while the silver medal inks 45K Pi.

Then, the third place gets 15K, while up to five honorable team mentions receive 5K each. Right now, there’s no limit to the number of builders on a dev crew. Ultimately, Pi Core’s official blog message asked the developers to focus on the quality rather than quantity. To submit the form on Pi’s developer portal, use the special code: hackathon25.

On The Flipside

  • The lack of major crypto platform listings has reflected on the continuous price downward trend since Pi Coin’s $2.99 all-time record hit a month into mainnet’s launch.

Why This Matters

With over 70 million crypto enthusiasts across the globe, Pi Network is a major altcoin despite its controversial relationship with major exchanges. Pi’s executive team launched a $100 million fund to bolster adoption with 100 decentralized applications, potentially giving this popular chain real-world utility.
