Pi Network (PI) is rolling out a critical chain upgrade, dubbed as Protocol 21. Stemming from the same code like Stellar Lumens (XLM), Pi’s mainnet now requires each network node validator to upgrade the firmware to the latest version by April 6, 2026.
Pi Takes Inspiration From Stellar With This Key Upgrade
This is the next step in the gradual effort to make Pi Network’s mainnet user-centric & fully decentralized, just like Stellar Lumens (XLM). Both networks count on the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP), which establishes trusted groups of quorum slices in order to process transfers.
With the new Protocol 21 mainnet upgrade, the Pioneers are able to install the desktop version of Pi Network to apply for a node – the Selection Stage will follow, carefully selecting reliable devices to run the network nodes on. Each selected member will have to go through KYC in order to garner yield from the running nodes.

With Pi Network (PI) silently following in the footsteps of Stellar (XLM), the regulatory compliance could accelerate Pi Coin’s listing procedures. This month, Kraken listed Pi Coin on their Spot market offerings, but many major crypto brands like Binance, Bybit or KuCoin haven’t.
The Next Big Date Pioneers Are Peeling Their Eyes On
Kraken’s Pi Coin listing on the International Pi Day has sparked up a rally towards $0.29, posting the best result Year-to-Date (YTD), according to SoSoValue. Since then, Pi’s native crypto backtracked all the way back to the support floor at $0.16 – $0.17, proving the Pi Day rally unsustainable.

With social media still puzzling around Binance’s potential Pi Coin listing, many of the proactive Pioneers are relying on the Double Pi Day, coming up on July 28, 2026. The Pi2Day is known for speculation around listings, but the urgent requests by outspoken Pioneer community voices haven’t been answered yet. As Pi2Day is in three months, calls on social media like this are likely to multiply, pushing Pi Coin (PI) back on the trending queries on Crypto Twitter.
For now, Pi Coin’s market value growth mainly relies on the decentralized finance (DeFi) push. RWA tokenization, B2B payments and a blockchain-based social media platform are all included in the 100 dApps plan, announced as a strategic priority in mid 2025.
