X launched its Cashtags feature in the US and Canada on iPhone, adding real-time price charts and asset tagging directly into posts.

The feature lets users search or post tickers and receive automated suggestions to match the correct stock or crypto asset, with tap-through access to related discussions and pricing data inside the app.

Cashtags Feature Launch

The Cashtags feature allows users to search or post a ticker symbol or crypto contract address, triggering automatic suggestions of matching financial assets. Users can then select the correct instrument and access posts mentioning that asset alongside a price chart in a single interface.

According to a product announcement by Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, the new feature ensures that users are always matched to the chatter for the right stock or token.

Bier also announced a pilot integration with Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading brokerage,  enabling select users to trade directly from Cashtag-linked asset pages.

The feature is currently available only on iPhone in the US and Canada, with no confirmed timeline for wider platform expansion.

Bier noted that Cashtags are an early step toward building deeper finance and crypto tools on X. The goal is to make trading more direct within the same content users are already viewing.

What Changes for Traders

For traders, the main shift is that market discovery and price checking now happen inside the social feed. Instead of moving between platforms to read posts, verify tickers, and view charts, users can do all of this in one place.

On The Flipside

  • Even if the new feature promises higher accuracy, improved user retention, and a more seamless experience for traders, it also introduces risks. These include potential misinformation and increased regulatory exposure from blending real-time social chatter with financial data.

Why This Matters

The update brings asset discovery, discussion, and charting into a single social feed experience. This reduces friction between financial conversations and market tracking, positioning X closer to tools typically associated with brokerage platforms and financial data providers.

The integration of the Cashtags feature also reflects a gradual convergence between social media and financial tools, potentially increasing competition with trading and market information platforms.
